“BOAS procedure was absolutely life changing for my French Bulldog, Kody. We had a pre-op appointment scheduled in October, I was a little apprehensive about putting him under anesthesia because of the breed and horror stories I read on Facebook. So, I decided to try to just control his aspirating with medication. Eventually… you could tell his lack of being able to breathe was just wearing him down.
When I tell you my dog is a new dog after this procedure… If your dog has trouble breathing and doesn’t play too much I urge you to get this procedure done. I feel like I got the second half of my dog. He plays with no issues, no more choking or spitting up. You can tell that he overall just enjoys life so much more and it is so bittersweet because I only wish I had it done sooner…
If you are considering having this done, especially with Dr Boaz Man, do not hesitate. You are making the right decision and it might upset you to put your baby under for an elective procedure but trust me when I tell you, your dog will love you for it and Dr Man and his LOVELY STAFF (cannot forget the amazing people who helped us Javier, Roberta just to name a few) will be there for you every step of the way. He is an expert at this point doing these procedures and I’m so happy that I was actually able to TRUST him and his staff”
WHY does BREATHING in FLAT FACED DOGS with BOAS WORSEN with TIME ?
Because of NEGATIVE AIRWAY PRESSURE (NAP) associated with UPPER AIRWAY OBSTRUCTION !
EXTREME Brachycephalic Dogs (Frenchies, English Bulldogs, & Pugs) are born with ABNORMAL ANATOMY (Narrow Airways) that results in SWELLING of SOFT TISSUES in the UPPER AIRWAY (Nose & Throat) at a YOUNG AGE.
Try to PINCH your NOSE & CLOSE your THROAT & then BREATHE to understand what life is like for these dogs who suffer on a daily basis.
BOAS is an ANIMAL WELFARE ISSUE & we must continue to help RAISE AWARENESS about how WE MUST HELP these dogs !
