Enzo the 4 month old frenchie was suffering from Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS)

BOAS Laser Surgery can be considered as early as 6 months of age.

Early intervention is beneficial for the following reasons:

1. Prevention of Secondary Changes: Chronic airway obstruction can lead to regurgitation (aerogastric disorders), aspiration pneumonia, everted laryngeal saccules, laryngeal collapse, heatstroke,, collapse, & death.

Early correction minimizes this risk.

2. Better Tissue Healing: Younger animals tend to heal faster & more effectively.

3. Improved Quality of Life: Addressing the issue early improves breathing, exercise tolerance, & overall well-being.

Factors Influencing the Decision:

1. Severity of Symptoms: Dogs with severe breathing difficulties, frequent snoring, excessive regurgitation, exercise intolerance, or cyanosis (blue gums) are candidates for early surgery.

2. Veterinary Assessment: A thorough evaluation by a veterinarian or veterinary surgeon specializing in brachycephalic breeds is essential.

Common Procedures:

1. Stenotic Nares Correction: Widening the nostrils to allow better airflow.

2. Soft Palate Resection: Shortening an elongated soft palate.

Always consult with your veterinarian to determine the best course of action.
